Section 232

US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.

Section 232 tariffs are duties imposed on steel (25%) and aluminum (10%) imports based on a national security investigation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. They apply to imports from most countries, though some have negotiated quotas or exemptions. Section 232 duties are calculated on the entered value and stack on top of the MFN rate. Some downstream products (steel derivatives) are also covered.
